surpluscenter was/is "giving away" sanyo denki P5 AC servomotors.
at 30-40USD/motor.

there was a 1000 W model that is now sold out (stock=0 last week sometime)

they had about 40 of the 400 W model on friday and it is now down to 9.

still plenty of 300 W and 100 W models left.

I ordered 6 of the 400 W model, also waiting for shipping cost
confirmation etc.

there has been some interest in creating an 'opensource' drive for these
as commercial ac servodrives are expensive.
microchip dsPIC30F3011 + IR IRAMS power stage is one proposal.
