Are you sure you really need a 6:1 reduction? What motor are you using?
What type of drive - leadscrew? What thread pitch? What type of machine -
mill, router or ?

This seems a very high ratio, and may indicate some kind of mismatch in
the design. Especially if you are using stepper motors, there will be major
performance problems.
