i`ve used mechanical desktop and it is useful but very hard to use, it has alot of functions which you probly never use, i would recomend autodesk Inventor V9 or solidworks. i have inventor and it is very easy to create and manipulate 3d and 2d drawings. you draw in 3d and then transspose to 2d, you do not need to know exactly what you are drawing as you can roughly build up a 3d model with rough sizes and then alter the model at a later date and due to the fact everything is active to on another then adjacent sizes automatically change to suit, if that makes sense??
