I use my manual F1210 for machining mild steel and cast iron without any
issues spindle motor performance. This includes using a 40mm carbide face
mill. I have actually not used for anything as soft as aluminum.

As I believe the performance issues to which you refer tend to be worse at
low speeds, machining aluminum should not be a problem.

The upper speed limit may be an issue with very small cutters.
