One way to avoid conflicts between video cards and Linux distros is to
go with the Trident chipset since the outfit open-sourced the drivers to
the Linux community. One version that I know works well is the Trident
3D 9750 4-mb card and it is cheap. I had it up and running under
Slackware 3.4 distro and my current Caldera OpenLinux 3.4, so the
support is there....
