Has anyone cnc'ified a Cowells mill or lathe? I'm about to head down
that road and would welcome other's experiences in doing this.
I have never seen anything on CNC, and the Cowells on the same page.
However I would assume it will be somewhat like is done with the Sherline,
or the Taig. Same size motors, and same software, drives.ETC.
I think the main problem will be designing mounts. Look closely at the
Sherline mounts, and see if they can be adapted, or a modification of them made,
especially the bearing system. Possibly an adapter plate between the
Sherline mount, and the Lathe/Mill???
On an EMCO Compact 5 PC Lathe, that I removed the steppers from, and
replaced with servos, I had to make a new mounting plate to replace the one used
with the steppers, ended up being quite simple.
