Maybe you could explain why a stepper with encoder operated as a AC servo is
preferred to a DC motor with encoder operated as a DC servo?
Once you have added the extra circuitry and hardware, isn't the complexity
of the device about the same?
I've heard vehement arguments about both from non-authoritative sources.
Sounded a bit like a religous war to me.

servomotor just as a DC servomotor becomes an ordinary DC motor when
operated without a PID servo loop.
