I've reading the micro-milll CNC group,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hf47158toCNC/
the slick set-up is
to buy the micro-mill $250
a larger X table from LMS $70
a new column from LMS $130
extended Y axis $80
Belt drive conversion $100 + ?
( LMS = http://www.littlemachineshop.com )
This is not CNC related, just machine related to extend it's capabilities.
LMS also carries CNC kit parts.
If one is interested in that project, a little research might be VERY eye-opening.
The beauty of the micro and mini mills is that LMS has many bolt on parts for the
conversion so saving time and getting running is drasticly reduced.
What other base mill can you get that has all that for roughly $650 ?
Or, jump up to the X3 from Grizzly for $1,000 but has a much bigger frame.
and of course, a dovetail column. The mini-mill is the other contender. that is less than
$500 (even less from Homier.com)
The X3 would be more work as soooo many people have done the micro and mini
conersions. Both have yahoo groups.
And on another thought, I would think that these dovetail macines would need a decent
automatic lubrication system.
