I have a very simple circuit that I use for exactly this purpose. It requires only one inverter and two AND gates. Not my design-I got it from a Galil Motion Control data sheet for their GL1200 chip. If someone will tell me how I can post it to the files section or I can email it directly to you. I took a digital pic of the circuit and it is saved as a jpeg file.
