Hello Again;
The machine that began this thread has a BOS8 operating system and the DX32
control, I expect that is why we have had problems feeding it code from
MasterCAM9 from a PC that is on a network running Windoze XP ( Bill I did
intentionally miss spell that) I had suspected that it was a DOS only
control, I did manage to run several small programs through the A drive but
they were only a thousand to fourteen hundred lines.
A student that graduated just after I started seemed to be under the
impression that the machine could only store programs under two thousand
lines!
That doesnt sound right to me, has any one else found any thing like this?
He said that the editor would not load past the 2K ,
The items I have set up are just engraving other students names on tools
they have made, and showing them how to post the code to the machine after
drawing it in AutoCAD or Rhino 3D then generating the code in SheetCam using
a modified post processor; the controller is a bit anal we (our Instructor
and I) thought that the code had to have end of block statements at the end
of each line and a line space break between each line, But it only requires
a semi colon , the BOS-X operating system sees each line as a separate line
we are using a modified Haas Vers. 3 Post Processor,
This machine is pretty fast and with a 24 pot tool changer <It might be 25>
and rapids up to about 160 IPM its a sturdy little bugger, too bad
Bridgeport had to rush it onto the market, and made it so proprietary, up
until 2002 updates were available, I wish Harding had bought all of their
patents.
All Romi used was the name the quality was defiantly early third world
development on the Romi 14-40 lathes we have in school, as for the users
manual we have one Ill see if the Graphics department will allow me to run
a copy <if my instructor OKs it> then you could make a small donation to our
class or the Cad/Graphics program for the paper, Ill check Monday
Thanks to all who have responded with some tidbit of information that will
help me get this beast working well again, They arent particularly powerful
machines but would be a good bet for a small shop, the canned cycles are OK
but are limited in number, conversational as with the EZ tracks would make
it a fantastic machine; perhaps it would be worthy of its own group, I knew
there had to be some about.
If the budget and administration would allow it I would convince my
instructor to shell out for a breakout board and 4 Geckos, we even have a
rotary table for it; then again Im not sure Geckos will work under DOS
Thanks Very Much
Ken Ferrell
