X3 CNC conversion

on 2006-08-11 16:25:58 UTC
Just finished the tall colum X3 to CNC.
It's a nice conversion even if I say it myself as no expense has been spared.
It is going to be offered as a kit by Arc Eurotrade in the UK.
Features all new compact motor mountings with precision matched angular contact
bearings, Precision NSK ballscrews with double seals and wipers.
Triple stack Nem 23 motors rated at 2.5 amps but being driven off seperate 8 amp
drivers so they are well withing spec and not running on the limit.

The controller is Mach 3 which is powering four axis, spindle, coolant and also
the speed control of the motor.

In testing we could get 5 metres per minute, [ 200 in/min ] but for safety
reasons this has been locked down to 2 m/min, [ 80 in.min ] and this will also
guarantee no lost steps which this over load factor.

By a bit of modification on the screw conversion we have managed to get the
original axis travels from X = 380mm, y = 140mm and Z = 250mm to X = 420mm, Y =
190mm and Z is now at 380mm.
