Hey all I had posted about a week ago my new project for a column
support system that also acts as a tramming system. It worked very
well but had a few shortcomings. It was mounted directly to the
bench which is a plywood top. It had alot of flex. This made it
harded to use for tramming than it should have been.
So I broke it all down and revamped it and took the opportuninty to
do what I had been wanting to for awhile.
The mill is now on a flat sturdy base plate (1" thick yahoo-luckily
they were out of 3/4" and upgraded me for no charge) and the
supports are intgrated and the whole thing is as solid as a rock.
The base is mounted with rubber pads to the bench to reduce
vibtration and allow it to compensate for any uneveness in the table.
Once everything was installed it took all of 5 minuted to tram it in
whithin .001. No percievable movement when you push the column by
hand now and it does not go out of alignment when you do so. Which
is one of my inspirations for this project in the first place.
Also included are photos of the fourth axis installed.
Time to start making chips again.....yay
Next is to add a blower or vac system to the mill head to evacuate
swarf.
Any comments are welcome. Thank you for looking.
