The main advantage is that it's self contained - so you don't need a
computer hooked up. Like self contained DRO systems. The range of
functions is restricted, but the stuff you use 95% of the time is
available. You can almost think of it as a stepping stone to full CNC.
Once you have a motor set up on the lead screw, and something on the
cross slide - full CNC may be the next step - when SWMBO permits further
expenditure ;)
