Hi Dave,

AFAIK none of the BP CNCs used glass scales. Mine originally used
steppers. On the steppers it was pretty slow and every so often lost
steps. After cooking several drives I gave up in disgust and threw out
the steppers. I replaced them with servos made from modified treadmill
motors and using Gecko drives. It is all controlled by an industrial PC
running Mach3. The machine now does 2.5 m/min (100IPM) easily and has
enough torque to snap a 10mm carbide cutter without even noticing.
