You didn't mention much about the version and GUI interface that you're
running, but....

I'm using the "MINI.TCL" interface that Ray Henry built for Sherline
machines (you needn't have a Sherline machine to use this interface -
it'll run anything). The "OPEN" button shows only when you've selected
the "AUTO" running mode. With MINI.TCL, there are a set of buttons at
the top of the screen for Manual, MDI, Auto. Each of these selections
display a different set of buttons and have a different set of actions
that you are allowed to perform while in that mode.
