Hi Mike:
Best ones I've found are Newall.
They are very tough and will continue working under the filthiest conditions
imaginable, unlike glass scale readouts that need to be kept clean.
They're also much simpler to mount to the machine than most other brands.
You want a Spherosyn scale for the carriage, and a Microsyn scale for the
cross slide.
They cost about a third more than Mitutoyo, but are well worth the extra
money.
Cheers

Marcus

We just recently purchased a Jet 1340A belt drive metalworking lathe.
We did not order the lathe with digital readouts. Now we are
interested in fitting the machine with them. How difficult is it to
install the DRO?
Are there any brands that seem to be better? As far as prices go,
what costs are we looking at? There are some DROs on eBay for less
than $800. Are these junk or are they worth looking at?
