Dude,
Jon is right. Accu-Sort lasers are designed to read bar-coded
labels at a distance of not more than about 4'. I have used their
scanners in distribution sortation systems for years. If you'd like
to verify this, call their engineering department in Telford, PA. The
number is in their web site.
