Phenolic Table top [spoil board?]

Anyone ever used a phenolic table top [instead of a steel/cast or alum]
I've seen it mentioned on a machine spec sheet and am wondering if it's
a viable replacement for aluminum? I'm in need of some form of a table
w/ slots but do to the size of my machine don't want to have to pay for
extruded Alum. [I would need ~180 sqr ft] Is phenolic cheaper than an
alum table/bed? Does it last? Is it affected by coolants?
