Grayhill is also good. They run about $56 each, at least for the 256
counts/rev ones that I used on my last project. I used Series 63R,
sealed, ball bearing, 5 pin quadrature output. These would be good
for mounting to the other end of a leadscrew, opposite the motor. I
used them on a competition robot for wheel odometry, one on each
independently driven wheel. If I were mounting the encoders to the
second shaft of a dual shaft motor, they also sell encoders that fit
onto standard shaft sizes, rather than having shafts of their own.
