Hello,
I have designed and built a 3d Video Probe (aka Laser Triangulation Gauge).
I will not be attending the upcoming CNC event so a friend will show it
next week in Galesburg, IL (http://www.cnc-workshop.com/).
Machining was done on my Sherline 5410 CNC mill. Some drawings,
discussion, theory, and photos are scattered around the Mach3 Forum
under the heading of Video Probing.

There is a 3/8 inch diameter shank so that it can be installed on any
mill. There are also mounting holes for attaching to a Sherline spindle
spacer block in place of the spindle. However, my friend might not have
a spacer block at the show.
This gauge works over about a half inch vertical square in a single
snapshot. Movement in one axis is adequate for scanning small parts like
a key or a coin. I scanned an old mailbox key and posted a JPG of the
point cloud on the Mach3 Forum.

Here is a drawing of the probe.

Here are photos of my Sherline mill with the probe installed.

Please let me know if you will be attending the show and want to try the
video probe on your own equipment. I will try to make arrangements to
lend it out for a few hours.
