Gecko drive G201 Questions

Howdy All! I was wandering the net and found Gecko Drives. The NEMA 42
steppers in my Bridgeport Series I CNC and their 201 [
http://www.geckodrive.com/g201/ ] drive look like a good match, as the
steppers are nominally 56v @ 7~8 amps. Having said that, does anybody
have experience with this unit driving large motors? Any words of wisdom
to pass on? I've gutted the BOSS 5 control out of my machine and am
looking to replace it with "modern" electronics.
The PC to output step and direction is already at hand and the machine
has the factory-mounted motors so I think the last major link is/are the
drivers. Once I get the machine to move with a simple BASIC program,
then it is on to finding software to take .dxf or other input files and
give me output swarf. This machine is a non-profit venture, {that sounds
so much better than "a hobby machine" <G>} so piddling around with it is
OK. If anybody sees a fundamental flaw in my reasoning, please let me
know. It is always better to change the plan before the concrete is
poured, rather than after.
Thanks,
Rick
