Derek,
I was considering converting my lathe and checked out some demos of 2
axis lathe cam. The best one was Dolphin at $400 (hobby pricing). It
was as least as good or better than Mechsoft's or EZCam's $1,000+
offerings.

Sheetcam is a great choice for 2.5 axis CAM.
