Good Books, Not Ingenious Mechanisms

I have this set of books, "Ingenious Mechanisms" in four volumes but I caution you to get a copy and try to read it BEFORE
buying. Most of the information is very hard to get into something really practical. The drawings are like patent drawings, they
really don't show you much. It is more useful for general reading.
A VERY good book on the same subject is this one:
Mechanisms and Mechanical Devices Sourcebook
