Hi David - for thought.

Double nuts reduce movement by at least the length of one nut, Belville
washers are springs, once you overcome that spring force, they are
ineffective.

Best solution, for the money, are Isel ballnuts and screws. They are
available with longitudinally split ballnuts that have adjustable
clamping onto the screw. They take up no more space than a standard nut
and are adjustable for as near to zero backlash as most can measure ;)
