This is just a heads up at the moment, I've only just got this thing and have no idea what it's worth. It is pretty old but in good condition and well maintained. I think it would be perfect for prototyping, small scale production or educational use. It is also based on stepper motors so it ideal for retrofitting etc etc.
It is A Contax Contact 3-100 Circa 1993. The machine is now sat in my garage and seems to be in good working order, all axes move and the cameras etc still work fine.
It has a long fixed gantry with two heads (each with rotational axis and a camera), these are on belt drives. The platen on which the PCB is mounted has a ball screw, I assume also stepper driven. There are two other linear axes on the gantry which carry pneumatic actuators which are used to operate the feeders which line up under the gantry, it has a vibrational feeder and several other feeders which are a little dubious and I think need some repair (I hope to do this). There are a further two cameras looking upwards from the bed between the platen and the feeders which are used for vision based component centring.
It runs from Dos based software on a gateway PC and is controlled by a keyboard and touch screen.
It is a large machine and very heavy, L=1.8m, W=1.2m, H=1.4m. Around 500kg judging by the struggling tail lift.
I know this has to be of use to someone, if I can't find a buyer I'll probably just sell it as parts.
Let me know if you have an interest, I can supply pictures and hopefully video in a few days.
Cheers,
Graham
