An old comment, yes, but how much?

Hunting +/- 1/8,192 of a revolution is not that bad. Also, a brake can
be applied which will not affect normal operation and may be a safety
feature. Cutting after applying a brake is pretty sure not to allow
much movement, use of the brake during emergency stop (E-STOP) operation
can save a body part. Neither is a *bad* reason to have one.
