There is a significant difference in plastics. Cell Cast Acrylic is the best for what you are doing it will not melt and gum up your cutter.
To make panels like you describe I use SuperCamXp, that way I can just pick the items in the drawing set the speeds slider bar and getter done.
By the way SuperCamXp works directly with DXF files to machine motion, no conversion to G-code files is required.
