FYI

I found an easy way to remove the encoder disk!

I used small wire clippers to snip off the individual clips of the retaining washer, removed it and then I soaked the end of the
motor shaft with the encoder disk attached in acetone for about 10 minutes. You can then lift the encoder disk off the shaft very
easily with a couple of razor blades, one on each side between the encoder disk and the thick washer attached to the motor shaft.
The acetone does a great job a loosening the glue and does not seem to hurt the encoder disk itself.
