This may be totally old hat to you, but I came across an interesting item
once. To the initiated it was just a piece of plastic, rough on both sides,
but held up to the light, it was a beautiful image. What they had done was
to split the lithopane levels in a random fashion, and engraved both sides
of the plastic. So looking at either side, it was just an unrecognizable
mess, but when held up to the light, the total thickness was in effect and
so the image became visible.
