The student copy requires proof of enrollment to a school. You will not be able to activate without this proof.

I picked up a sealed copy of Inventor Pro 2011 on E-bay last year for $1000. Maybe a lot for some, but I use it for business and the retail price of this package is $8k. I think Solidworks has better CAM addon's, but fat chance of picking up a copy of that for cheap.
