AutoCAD question

I started a new job, today. They are using ACAD 2008, whereas I have
2010 at home.
On mine, I can select something, like a line, and hit the delete key to
remove it. On the work version, I have to use the erase command and then
select the item to be deleted.
Is there a setting to change this, or is it a function of the version?
I tried Googling for the answer, but seem to be unable to frame the
search in such a way to return the correct answer.
Thanks for your time!
