This was discussed for quite a spell quite a while back and I took a survey
and asked list members to give me there opinion about whether things could be
advertised on the list. Almost 100% of the answers I got said that as long
as it was equipment that could be used by list members, that they wanted to
see it. So I have concurred with there wishes, and have allowed that to
happen. However it was decided also that actual business, and any complaints
were to be handled off list. So far I have seen no abuses of that policy.
To explain my reasoning on encouraging/allowing the posting in question, is
that it will allow prospective servo users to download the file, and see what
is involved if they decide to go that route. I will probably download it and
at least get more familiar with what is involved.
The original concept of this list, was that it be a source of information for
those of us that wanted to roll there own. As to others putting there files
up for all of us to see, I hope that they will, as long as it is available
for all of us to read and study, if we so desire. I would be happy for
anyone to freely share knowledge with the members of the list. I would also
discourage putting any software in the file section that was not freeware. I
feel that there is a difference between the manual, and software. Also I
might point out that looking at the files and downloading is strictly a
matter of choice.
That said I can understand others concerns about commercialization of the
list. I think that we have a happy middle road so far. I am very proud of
what this list has brought about to many that now have CNC working in there
shops, that was assembled/built by the list members, and the few cat fights
that we have had in the past. The mix has been good for all of us.
I will be glad to hear from anyone that agrees, or disagrees with my thoughts.
