I did just that at a recent trade show - The tape is dirt cheap ( �20/metre
IIRC). The read heads where the expensive part, and the output is a sine wave.
Including the black box to generate quadrature outputs, the price was about
�200-�250. At 20uM, it would be as well to try the Fagor range of glass scales.
