how about rigid tapping or thread milling

the whole idea behind an emergency stop is to STOP! STOP! STOP!
not to just sort of stop then change direction and move some more
if you are worried about the time it takes for the spindle to slow down
then you need to do something to slow it down faster (dynamic braking,etc)
usualy in an E-stop the broken tool chewing into the destroyed part will
slow the spindle down prety quick by itself
thats why you hit the big red button in the first place... isnt it? :)
