I agree, It seems the best thing to do in an emergency would be to lift the
Z-Axis by a couple of mm's then kill the spindle. I can't think of an emerg.
which would be made worse by lifting the spindle.

I'd sure not like to see my spindle go up in Z when I am cutting with a slitting saw or milling T slots. Think of the trouble you could have when running your 90 degree head.
