I have (when I dig it up) logic for 4 phase output from left and right
rotation. This can be easily modified to step and direction (which I
need to do).

Don, if you need to convert from 4-phases to step and direction (the
other way around), it is not as simple. I've been thinking about doing
it, 'tho.

I want to get the various stepper hardware I have more "in sync". MAXNC
PRO S&D driving the hardware I have schematics for, will allow me to
drive the existing simple "4-phase" driver and unipolar stepper motors I
have on my old Sherline. I currently run MAXNC PRO "phase" (STD?)
version. My old single axis drive boxes for the water phantom (for
testing linear accelerators) has cw and ccw inputs. Simple gating
converts them. Antenna rotator for RDF (Radio Direction Finding) is
already S&D. There are others.

So Don, do you really want 4-phase to S&D? Let me think about it.
