This is probably the view of many who have not benefited from the
actual hands on use of CNC machine tools.
As a Mechanical Engineer I have made my fortune in designing and
building custom industrial equipment.
CNC has given me the freedom to design not only very funcctional
parts but one-off parts that look mass produced.
Sure, I do a lot of repetitive work but I do just as much one-off. I
can program and run a complex Part in much less time than would be
required if done manually. Example to bore a bearing fit hole would
take an hour or so manually but on the CNC I can run a simple pocket
routine in a matter of minutes and add radii, spirals, angles, etc.,
with just a few extra key strokes.
I joined this sight because it seemed interesting and somewhat
exciting to know that I can build a CNC without spending 100K as I
have in the past. Of course now it more of a hobby than for
income,,, but then,,,I rareley do anything than doesn't have some
return.
Kind Regards,
