Re: 4th axis rotary with a 3 axis control, cutter comp.

Fred,

I Cut the Eccentric Follower in styrofoam last night. BUT I made a
change in the depth cuts, and forgot to turn off G41/G42 before I ran
MAXNC PRO (looked GREAT on the Sim). Yes, you're right! One needs to
understand the cutter comp BEFORE using it! Funny lump to the left of
the entry/exit point on the contour! Dust not as bad as I expected. I
made more of a mess trying to cut a chunk out of the sheet of
insulation, and trying to slice it into 1" thick slab, then milling it!
Tonight, I try again, with the comp's removed. Oh, and I found out
afterwards, the end mill I grabbed was LARGER then the 1/4" I thought I
had. Good thing it' only styrofoam!

Other variations not mentioned, are controllers that will and will not allow changes in Z depth while cutter comp is turned on. Most in my experience would prefer that cutter comp be turned off at any time that Z moves are executed.
