EMC/ 3 phase convertors

This is just a theoretical question for now, I'm not running EMC at this time,
although I am running Linux (at home). I don't really know a lot about
CAD/CAM so keep that in mind.
Anyway, the question is, Is EMC capable of controlling spindle speed and
can it do that by feeding an inexpensive VFD? I realize that some hardware
would be required to interface. I don't have a VFD yet, but I'm pretty sure that
my next mill will be large enough that I will probably go that route and get a
VFD to drive it.
