as I understand it (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
for most stepper control software the PC calculates and combines
the step bits for all 3 axies into a byte in memory
and sends them all to the port at once as a one byte output operation
so the PC would have to send 10k bytes/sec to the port
to move just one or all three axies together at 60ipm

if the 486 is already doing 200 ipm for one axis it should be
able to do it for all three ,unless the extra math slows it down
but I dont think it should have that much effect on the top speed
would it ?
