Well,

I started a PayPal account before the No Ads fund, with a checking
account #, and it didn't work. I have tried again since then with a
credit card *AND* a checking account #, and I still don't have it
working. :>|

There are some limitations in PayPal's data-entry form that prevented me from using my card at the time, so I just used the bank account method.
