Hugh,
IMO,You don't need the 2502. I also used 2502's first pass many years
ago. Switched to 2501-4 and been happy ever since.
Jon E gives you some good advice.
Do you know the PS2501 and PS2502 series is available in 1,2,3, and 4
opto pkgs? You could ues/spec 2501-3 for your EMC limits.
Although the STG cards may not have opto-isolation (I'm speaking from
someone else's earlier post as I have not used the STG card) and most
peripheral devices(printers, scanners,etc) don't either: in most
cases these connections ARE buffered.
See Jan Axlesons Parallel port site for more info(good book(S) too!)

P.S. The things I do for myself I almost NEVER opto-isolate anymore.
I do use the cheap p-port card approach, though.
Things I make for OTHERS, I ALWAYS use the opto's. Product liability
is WEAK in this country and I don't want to buy someone a new
computer because his attorney thinks I should!
P.S.S. (re/from Hugh's temp website) These "trivial" circuits are
like many other "trivial" things; Easy to do, DIFFICULT to do WELL.
The devil IS in the details.
