Hi all,

Someone asked what SO cordage meant:

The S stands for "standard" service which is an insulation rating
good for 600V.

The O means the insulation is oil-resistant.

Also, Ian across the pond, wondered why no one has standardized the
color codes for wires universally?

Well Ian, you'll be pleased to know that a group called CENELEC(a
group of european(mostly)nations)has created what is called the
"Harmonized" wire code(s). England is one of the CENELEC group.

MFR's wishing to get the CE mark (to sell in the EC:don'tcha love
acronyms?!)are required to use wiring which complies with this
standard. This "forcing of the issue" IS causing the brown, blue, green
w/ yellow stripe(which is part of the harmonized code) to be seen
more and more on our side of the pond.

Many major electronics mfr's have been using "harmonized" wiring
world wide for several years already, and the smaller mfr's are
scrambling to find suppliers over here so that they can meet the CE
regs. On a recent post in a CE mark newsgroup, one man pondered the
notion that his company imported heavy copper "harmonized" colored
wire from europe, put it into their products, and promptly sent it
back across the water to its original home!
