Peter,

For the CHEAPEST way of getting going to learn CNC, and cut some
parts, you can't beat the $65.00 MaxNC "build-it-yourself-from-cheap-
mill-vises" milling machine. IT CAN work well, includes some basic
CNC gcode software, will be SLOW, and a great learning experience.

It will have to be, the maxNC "manual" is horrendous! But the machine
part is easy to understand and can be made by anyone,IMO.

Flashcut IS good stuff, too. I'm just responding to your desire to
get going quickly, cheaply, and learn.

If you decide to go with the sherline, Joe martin's(he owns Sherline)
pre-loaded screws and motor attachments will be hard to beat. Some
people HAVE retro-fit ballscrews/kerk leadscrews into Sherline mills!
It can be done.

One(at least) of our list members HAS a hot-wire foam setup, and
there are at least two s/w programs for this available on the net.
Look in the model airplane arena(s).

Hope this helps.

Ballendo

P.S. If you get your list emails in digest form, when you respond the
subject line will be non-informative. You can change it to refelect
the nature of your post.
