I'm hearing a lot of the "10 horse power motor" mentality here.

Guys, the problem is NOT "is it big enough", it's the
architecture of the OS.

Yes, we're talking about just fiddling the bits on the stepper,
and how that should happen.

If I had to do a 1 off CNC machine I'd just set up a
DOS or RTLinux box, whatever was simpler. Garage sale PC's are cheap.
Talk to it over a network card and run my interface on another box.
Indeed, it's how I did the last stepper I ever built.

That *is* a hardware solution.
