I forget the street name now, but I lived a stone throw from the Brass
Rail for a couple years. Grew up over by Haltek, the surplus outlet.
Worked at Spectra Physics, Varian, and an assortment of small, mostly
forgetable, job shops before escaping to Grass Valley.

I've talked with the Animatics folks several times over the past 4-5
years. The 23 frame motors used to be -real- pricey, I think in the
range of $1200+, if they're selling 23 frame motors for $500 now, that's
a pretty significant price reduction.
