I'm sentimental about tr's from transmission, differential and axle
experience.

Group,
Our day job's C-53 Thermwood Wood routers uses paired tapered rollers (tr's)
on all ball screw fixed ends. They are easy to preload, cheap and of course
easy to find at any auto parts store. One thing Thermwood did not do was to
provide for any sealing. They get all covered in a messy goo. Since TR's are
physically large, the block would need to be many times larger to accommodate
seals. Other wise I think they are great if you have the space. I posted many
months ago that TR's can be had down to 8 or 10 mm bores. However, these
being rare birds, they are more costly that the more common automotive sizes.
