I am planning on building the PC based DRO based off Tom K's software
and Dan M's circuit board. Does anyone have any tips/tricks on the best
way to mount the mylar strip and encoder heads in a protective frame? Is
is best to glue them, clamp them, place them under tension with a
spring, etc...? The encoder appears to have to enclose both sides of the
strip, meaning that the strip has to be cantilevered out a bit, or hang
down/point up. Is it rigid enough to do this unsupported? Any tips from
those that have done this before would be appreciated. Also, the US
Digital site mentions max length of the cables being a concern. With the
design were using, is this still a concern? Should the cables be
shielded in a particular way?
I guess this would qualify as delurking...
