I see you have the same dilemma as I encountered during the summer. I wanted
to convert a Bridgeport type machine to CNC and because of the tax system
here it was going to prove much too expensive to import from the States the
correct screws and nuts.

Although the problem was solved by a very nice man here, he had the screws
to fit my machine and they were new. I was looking at a possible solution
from McMaster-Carr in that they had ball-screws for a couple of hundred
dollars with plain nuts in the $30 range. I was going to buy two nuts for
each screw and manufacture them into anti-backlash. Maybe they wouldn't have
been as good as the real thing but at that price it was worth a serious
look. The total cost for each axis would have been closer to about $180.
