I seem to remember something about using propylene glycol for wood treatment. "Fine Woodworking" had several articles on it years
back.

FYI:
ethylene glycol mol wt. 62.07 (antifreeze) (toxic)
proplyene glycol mol wt. 76.1 food grade (cosmetics, etc)
polypropylene glycol mol wt 200 thru 10,000 depending on the degree of polymerization
Too many chemicals with similar names!
